CHM Obras e Infraestructuras, in consortium with other Spanish and Algerian companies, is carrying out one of the most ambitious civil engineering projects in the Western region of Algeria. The new Pénétrante de Mascara Autoroute connects with the highway (East-West) and covers 43 kilometres with three lanes in each direction.
The contract awarding body for this project is the National Highways Agency, owned by the Ministry of Infrastructure of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria.
The project involves great technical difficulties owing to the complex geography in that area. Work entails moving approximately 6 million cubic metres of excavated material, 4 cubic metres of embankment, 250,000 cubic metres of concrete and 50,000 tonnes of passive steel. The highway also has 3,750 metres of structure on the main carriageway and 120 metres on overpasses.
The project budget stands at 19,408,747,923.78 Algerian Dinars, equivalent to €180,857,061.74. Work is expected to be completed by mid-2018.
