The project entitled “HIGH SOLAR REFLECTANCE URBAN SURFACES” has received support from the CDTI within its PROGRAMME OF RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS, through the granting of a partially reimbursable aid with interest of up to 323,144.55 euros, over the total budget accepted by the CDTI, which amounts to 603,670.00 euros. This aid is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) through the Plurirregional Operational Programme of Spain 2014-2020.
The main objective of the project is to develop urban surfaces capable of regulating surface and environmental temperatures through the management of the solar energy that strikes them, improving the quality of life in cities and enhancing the energy efficiency of buildings, thus mitigating the effects of climate change.
To achieve this goal, asphalt mixtures for urban pavements and cement mortars for cladding building facades have been developed, incorporating materials with high infrared reflectance and low thermal conductivity compounds. By implementing these surfaces in urban areas, it is possible to achieve a reduction in ambient temperatures in the areas adjacent to the treated surfaces and a reduction in indoor temperatures in the buildings coated with them, resulting in energy savings and an improvement in the quality of life in cities.
