Technique for improving the skid resistance of asphalt road surfaces using micro-surfacing
The Spanish Patent and Trademark Office published on May 18, 2016, the patent obtained by chm entitled: “Technique for improving the skid resistance of asphalt road pavements through micro-surfacing treatments”,
This patent is the result of a research process carried out by chm, with the objective of developing a technique to improve the skid resistance of asphalt road surfaces through micro-embedding of aggregate particles, consisting of adding, in predetermined dosages, fine granular fractions of aggregates up to 1 mm with good polishing resistance, particularly porphyry, andesite, calcined bauxite, and/or ferrous slag aggregate, onto the asphalt wearing course, both on the newly laid layer during road construction and on old layers without structural failure in rehabilitation works, introducing the granular fractions in this case through the action of a specific binder.
This now-patented technique offers the advantage of providing improved adherence to the surface layer of newly built pavements at an early and durable stage, enabling the conservation of old pavements with anti-skid deficiencies without needing to replace them, and allowing the use of aggregate materials from nearby sites, such as limestone or dolomite aggregates, or residual aggregates, resulting in economic and environmental savings.
