CHM Obras e Infraestruturas, in consortium with other Spanish and Algerian companies, is carrying out one of the most ambitious civil works projects in the Western region of Algeria. This is the new Mascara tunnel that connects with the 43-kilometer-long (East-West) Highway and has three lanes in each direction.
The adjudicating body for this project is the National Highway Agency, which belongs to the Ministry of Infrastructure of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria.
This is a project with major technical difficulties due to the complex topography of the terrain. Approximately 6 million cubic meters of demolition work will be carried out, 4 million cubic meters of earthwork, 250,000 cubic meters of concrete and 50,000 tons of passive steel will be used. In addition, there are 3,750 meters of structure on the main roadway and 120 meters on the transverse sections of the highway.
The project budget amounts to 19,408,747,923.78 Dinars of Argelia, equivalent to 180,857,061.74 €. The work is scheduled to be completed by mid-2018.
